Academic policies and procedures establish a clear framework for students’ rights and responsibilities. They safeguard the academic integrity of IEU-Paris and ensure that teaching and learning activities across the institution are conducted in accordance with principles of fairness, transparency, and accountability.
All students are expected to familiarize themselves with the academic policies and procedures applicable to their studies at IEU-Paris. Students who require further clarification regarding any academic policy, including matters not explicitly addressed on this website, should consult the relevant administrative or academic office.
IEU-Paris is firmly committed to upholding the principles of academic integrity and honesty. Students are expected to demonstrate these principles in all academic activities by:
IEU-Paris maintains a strict position against academic dishonesty and considers violations of academic integrity a serious breach of its academic standards. Any such violation may result in appropriate educational and disciplinary measures, proportionate to the nature and severity of the misconduct. These measures may range from mandatory educational interventions and academic integrity programmes to suspension or expulsion from the institution, in accordance with the applicable institutional policies and procedures.
Academic integrity is fundamental to higher education, ensuring the credibility of academic qualifications and the fair assessment of students’ knowledge and competencies.
IEU-Paris strictly prohibits academic dishonesty, including cheating, plagiarism, and any conduct that compromises the validity of academic evaluation. Academic misconduct includes, but is not limited to:
Cheating: Copying another student’s work, accessing assessment answers without authorization, or misrepresenting one’s identity in online academic activities.
Plagiarism: Presenting another person’s ideas, words, or creative work as one’s own without proper acknowledgment.
Falsification: Altering official academic records or modifying graded submissions without authorization.
Unauthorized assistance: Submitting work substantially produced by another person or facilitating academic misconduct by others. Students found responsible for academic dishonesty may receive a failing grade on the relevant assessment and may be subject to further disciplinary action, in accordance with IEU-Paris policies and procedures.
Students are responsible for:
IEU-Paris upholds the highest standards of academic integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct among all members of its academic community. The institution is committed to fostering an environment that supports intellectual development, academic achievement, and personal growth. To preserve the quality and credibility of its educational mission, IEU-Paris establishes and enforces clear standards of academic performance and conduct.
In addition to the rights to privacy and protection against discrimination afforded to all IEU-Paris students, any student alleged to have violated the Academic Honesty Policy is entitled to the following procedural rights:
IEU-Paris upholds the principles of academic freedom, intellectual independence, and open inquiry. Within the context of academic discussions, coursework, and other scholarly activities, students are encouraged to express their perspectives, interpretations, and opinions on substantive issues, including those that may be controversial or differ from prevailing viewpoints.
Students shall not be penalized, censored, or subjected to discriminatory treatment solely on the basis of expressing dissenting opinions or holding controversial views, provided that their contributions comply with applicable academic standards and institutional policies.
The University recognizes that respectful debate, critical analysis, and the exchange of diverse perspectives are essential to intellectual development and the advancement of knowledge. Accordingly, students are expected to engage in academic discourse with mutual respect, intellectual rigor, and a willingness to consider differing viewpoints.
Plagiarism is the act of presenting another person’s words, ideas, research, data, or creative work as one’s own without appropriate acknowledgment. It applies to material obtained from any source or medium, including books, academic journals, websites, digital publications, audiovisual content, interviews, correspondence, artwork, and other scholarly or creative works.
Plagiarism may occur through direct copying, inadequate paraphrasing, inaccurate attribution, or the unauthorized use of work produced by another individual or an artificial intelligence (AI) tool.
Students must acknowledge all sources used in the preparation of academic assignments, reports, research papers, presentations, and other assessed work. Direct quotations must be clearly identified and accompanied by appropriate citations. Paraphrased or summarized material must also be attributed to its original source, even when expressed in the student’s own words.
Including a source in the bibliography or reference list alone does not replace the requirement to provide appropriate in-text citations or equivalent source attribution, in accordance with the referencing style prescribed for the assignment.
Students are responsible for ensuring that all citations and references are accurate, complete, and verifiable.
IEU-Paris may use approved similarity-detection software to support the assessment of academic originality. A similarity score of up to 25% may be used as an indicative screening threshold for the initial review of an assignment; however, it does not constitute automatic evidence of plagiarism or guarantee that the work is free from academic misconduct.
Lecturers shall evaluate similarity reports in context, taking into consideration the nature of the matched material, the adequacy of citations, the assignment requirements, and the overall academic integrity of the submission. Properly cited quotations, reference lists, standard terminology, and other legitimate textual matches should be distinguished from unattributed or improperly reproduced material.
The use of generative AI and other AI-assisted tools must comply with the requirements established by the relevant lecturer and the applicable institutional policies. Unless expressly authorized, students must not submit AI-generated or substantially AI-produced content as their own independent work.
Where disclosure is required, students must appropriately acknowledge the use of AI tools and describe their contribution to the submitted work. Students remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, proper attribution, and academic quality of all submitted material, including content developed with permitted technological assistance.
Suspected plagiarism and other violations of academic integrity shall be reviewed in accordance with the established procedures of IEU-Paris. Students found responsible for academic misconduct may receive a failing grade for the relevant assignment or course and may be subject to further disciplinary measures, up to and including suspension or dismissal from the University, depending on the nature and severity of the violation.
All cases shall be assessed on the basis of relevant evidence and applicable institutional procedures, with appropriate consideration given to the student’s right to a fair and impartial process.
IEU-Paris recognizes the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to support teaching, learning, and academic development. Its use must uphold academic integrity, independent thinking, and the credibility of academic assessment.
Students may use AI tools for purposes authorized by their lecturers, including research support, brainstorming, language improvement, and learning assistance. The extent of permitted use shall be determined by the requirements of each assignment.
Students must not present AI-generated work as their own original contribution when such use is unauthorized or misrepresents their work. AI-generated information, citations, and references must be verified for accuracy. Students must disclose and acknowledge AI assistance whenever required by the lecturer or applicable academic guidelines.
Unauthorized AI use during examinations or assessments, the submission of AI-generated work in violation of assignment requirements, the fabrication of sources or data, and the use of AI to conceal plagiarism constitute potential academic misconduct.
Students remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, and academic quality of all submitted work, including material developed with AI assistance. Confidential information, personal data, and unpublished academic materials must not be entered into AI platforms without appropriate authorization.
Suspected violations shall be reviewed in accordance with IEU-Paris academic integrity procedures. AI-detection results alone shall not constitute conclusive evidence of misconduct. Established violations may result in a failing grade, formal disciplinary action, suspension, or dismissal, depending on the severity of the offence.
Students are expected to comply with this policy and any additional AI-use requirements established for individual courses or assessments. IEU-Paris reserves the right to review and update this policy in response to developments in educational technology and applicable regulations.
The review of alleged academic integrity violations at IEU-Paris constitutes an institutional administrative process intended to uphold academic standards and ensure procedural fairness. It is distinct from criminal or civil judicial proceedings and does not require the application of formal rules of evidence applicable in courts of law.
Relevant information shall be evaluated impartially and proportionately, taking into account the circumstances of each case. Information that is irrelevant, immaterial, or unduly repetitive may be excluded to ensure an efficient and fair review. Students shall be informed of the allegations and afforded a reasonable opportunity to respond in accordance with the University’s established procedures.
